Datganiad: Iestyn Tyne yw bardd preswyl yr Eisteddfod

Heddiw, cyhoeddwyd mai Iestyn Tyne fydd bardd preswyl prosiect Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Llŷn ac Eifionydd, a gynhelir yn ardal Boduan yn haf 2021. 

Dyma’r tro cyntaf i’r Eisteddfod benodi bardd preswyl ar gyfer y prosiect, a’r bwriad yw cofnodi’r gwaith ar lawr gwlad mewn ffordd gyffrous a newydd wrth i’r bardd greu cerddi i adlewyrchu’r hyn sy’n cael ei gynnal yn lleol ar draws y dalgylch.

Bydd y gwaith yn dechrau’n syth, ac yn dilyn y cyfarfod cyhoeddus heno yn Ysgol Glan y Môr, Pwllheli, bydd gan Iestyn rwydd hynt i greu cerddi ac ymateb i wahanol agweddau o’r prosiect cymunedol rhwng rŵan a’r ŵyl ei hun.

Wrth ymateb i’w benodiad fel bardd preswyl, dywedodd Iestyn, “Braint o'r mwyaf i mi yw cael fy mhenodi yn fardd preswyl ar gyfer y cyfnod rhwng rŵan ac Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Llŷn ac Eifionydd 2021.

“Mae'r ffaith i mi gael fy magu dafliad carreg o faes yr eisteddfod honno yn gwneud y cyfle yn un arbennig iawn ar lefel bersonol, ac rwy'n edrych ymlaen yn fawr at gydweithio â phobl o bob math o gefndiroedd sy'n byw ym mro'r eisteddfod dros y ddwy flynedd nesaf.  I ŵyl fel hon fod yn llwyddiant, mae'n rhaid uno pobl - a pha ffordd well o wneud hynny na thrwy farddoniaeth?”

Ychwanegodd Betsan Moses, Prif Weithredwr yr Eisteddfod, “Ry’n ni’n falch iawn o gyhoeddi mai Iestyn fydd ein bardd preswyl cyntaf erioed.  Cafwyd ymateb arbennig i’r cyfle hwn, a nifer o geisiadau gwirioneddol dda.  Felly llongyfarchiadau gwresog i Iestyn ar gael ei ddewis i ymgymryd â’r gwaith.

“Pob dymuniad da i Iestyn gyda’r gwaith yn ardal Llŷn ac Eifionydd, ac ry’n ni’n edrych ymlaen yn arw at weld beth ddaw dros y misoedd nesaf – a phwy a beth fydd yn ei ysbrydoli.  Bydd y cerddi’n cael eu defnyddio i hyrwyddo’r wyl ac i dynnu sylw at y gwaith sy’n cael ei wneud gan drigolion lleol ar draws y dalgylch. 

Magwyd Iestyn Tyne ym Moduan, cartref yr Eisteddfod Genedlaethol yn 2021. Mae bellach wedi ymgartrefu yng Nghaernarfon, lle mae'n gweithio'n rhan amser fel cyfieithydd i'r Cyngor Sir, ac yn treulio gweddill ei amser yn gweithio'n llawrydd fel perfformiwr, awdur a golygydd.

Mae'n aelod o nifer o grwpiau cerddorol ac wedi perfformio ei waith ledled Cymru a thu hwnt, gan gynnwys teithiau yn Iwerddon, Gwlad y Basg, Llydaw ac, yn ddiweddar, Colombia.

Eleni, trwy ennill Cadair Eisteddfod yr Urdd Caerdydd a'r Fro, daeth y cyntaf erioed i fod wedi ennill coron a chadair Prifwyl yr Urdd, wedi iddo ennill y Goron yn Eisteddfod Sir y Fflint 2016. Yn sgil y wobr, bydd yn teithio i Gamerŵn fis Chwefror i berfformio mewn gŵyl lenyddol yno.

Y tu hwnt i'w waith creadigol, mae ei ddiddordebau yn cynnwys mynd i grwydro bryniau ac arfordiroedd yng nghwmni ei bartner, Sophie, a'u sbaniel hynod egnïol, Casi.

​Today, the Eisteddfod announced the appointment of Iestyn Tyne as the Llŷn and Eifionydd National Eisteddfod resident poet.

This is the first time the Eisteddfod has appointed a resident poet for the project, and the aim is to chronicle the community project in an exciting and new way, with Iestyn composing poems to reflect the project locally.

The work starts immediately, and following this evening’s public meeting in Ysgol Glan y Môr, Pwllheli, Iestyn will have a free rein to compose and respond to elements of the community project over the coming months.

Responding to his appointment as resident poet, Iestyn said, “I am delighted to be appointed as the resident poet for the Llŷn and Eifionydd resident poet until the festival in 2021.

“The fact I was brought up a mere stone throw away from the festival Maes has made this opportunity even more special, and I look forward to working with people of all kinds and backgrounds living in the area over the next two years.  It’s vitally important we bring people together for this festival and project to be a success – and what better way of doing this than through poetry?”

Eisteddfod Chief Executive, Betsan Moses, added, “We are pleased to announce that Iestyn is our first ever resident poet.  We had an excellent response to the post with a number of excellent applications.  So, our warmest congratulations to Iestyn for being chosen for the project.

“We wish Iestyn well with the work in Llŷn and Eifionydd, and we look forward to reading and hearing his work over the coming months.  The poems will be used to promote the festival and the work done by local people across the region.

Iestyn Tyne was brought up in Boduan, home of the 2021 National Eisteddfod.  He now lives in Caernarfon, where he works part time as a translator for the County Council, and spends the rest of his time working as a freelance performer, author and editor.

He is a member of a number of musical groups and has performed across Wales and further afield, including tours in Ireland, Belgium, Brittany and, most recently, Colombia.

This year, having won the Cardiff and District Urdd Eisteddfod Chair, he became the first person ever to win both the Urdd festival Crown and Chair, having won the Crown at the Flintshire Urdd Eisteddfod in 2016.  Following this, he will be travelling to Cameroon in February to perform at a literary festival.

Other than his creative work, his interests include exploring hills and coastlines with his partner, Sophie, and their extremely energetic spaniel, Casi.

The Eisteddfod public meeting is held at Ysgol Glan y Môr, Pwllheli at 19:00 this evening.
